Obergünzburg. A small town in the Ostallgäu district.
Around 6500 people live here in 2024. The twelve years of National Socialist rule from 1933 to 1945 and the subsequent years of privation after the war also shaped the lives of an entire generation in Obergünzburg. In this film, ten eyewitnesses recall this defining period. Locals, newcomers and refugees. Their stories, life experiences and insights are a precious gift for those of us born later.
They deal with violence and death, flight and expulsion, powerlessness and lawlessness, but also with the joys of childhood, new beginnings, new starts and arrivals. Listening to each other and learning from each other is a prerequisite for shaping our future.
