Russia's Horses 2/5

Russia's Horses 2/5

The village of Kuzomen is located high up in the north of Russia, on the coast of the White Sea. Here lives a herd of semi-wild horses roaming through the village like dogs tramping around elsewhere. After the abandonment of the local collective farm in the 1990s, there was no longer any use for them and they were simply released. The once faithful servants of man have become stray outsiders and good-for-nothing, who tear down fences, steal vegetables and potatoes and even attack people. Just barely tolerated. A nuisance, actually. Only the old Baba Lusja takes care of the animals and has gained their trust...
1300 kilometers further south lies St. Petersburg, Russia's gateway to the west. Political, cultural and social innovations - often originating in this city. And so it is perhaps no coincidence that the young St. Petersburgese Mascha Samarina cultivates modern horse training here, without any violence. Mascha understands her horse Prince as a friend and playmate, whom she wants to learn to understand. On her farm "Dar" horses are highly esteemed guests, only the Uzbek guest workers are obliged to work seriously.

The film authors Thorolf Lipp and Anastasia Vinokurova have traveled through the north of Russia for one summer and have come across horses and people who encounter each other with astonishing equality.
